The Chynn Family Foundation

The Chynn Family Foundation was formed in 2009 by K. York Chynn, MD, a retired Attending Radiologist at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center and former Division Chief of Neuroradiology, and Clinical Professor of Radiology at Columbia University’s College of Physician’s & Surgeons, where he taught medical students, interns, residents, and fellows for 20 years.

Dr. Chynn’s wife, Marie Noelle Chynn, MSW is also a Board Member. The third Board Member is his son, Emil William Chynn, MD, FACS, MBA, a graduate of Columbia University’s P & S, and prominent ophthalmologist in New York City specializing in laser vision correction, particularly the newer, more advanced, non-cutting technique known as LASEK, and the owner of www.ParkAvenueLASEK.com

The Chynn Family Foundation was funded initially with $1,000,000 of Dr. KY Chynn’s estate, which the younger Dr. Chynn and his two sisters, Monica and Audrey agreed to forgo as their inheritance, and use this money instead to fund scholarships, awards, and other initiatives in the field of education and promoting “filial piety.”

Dr. Emil Chynn has traveled extensively in Ukraine and currently has a Refractive Fellow, Tetiana Dovzhuk, who is from Kiev and worked at the largest laser vision correction center in Ukraine for many years.  Dr. Dovzhuk has set up a series of lectures for Dr. Chynn to give in Ukraine in Kiev, Kharkov, Sumy, and Liviv at the end of April, 2017, to groups of ophthalmologists about LASEK, business people who are MBA graduates about how to pursue business opportunities in the US (Dr. Chynn has his MBA from New York University as well as his MD from Columbia University), and graduate students in English and businesspeople studying business English about how to further their English studies.  The Chynn Family Foundation will choose three lucky people from Ukraine to come to New York City to study as interns for a 1-2 month period, and will provide free round-trip airfare and (basic) housing for this sabbatical period (because the interns will not have work status visas, they must be prepared to support their own minor expenses, mostly food, which is estimated as under $1000 per month). To apply, please send your resume and which of these three group’s scholarship you would want to apply for to: dr@ParkAvenueLASEK.com
